Retirement Visa

GENERAL INFORMATION:
 

You may qualify for a Non-Immigrant O (O-A) Visa for the retirement purposes ("Retirement Visa"}, if:

 
1.  your age is 50 years old or over;
2.  you have not less than 800,000 Thai Baht (or equivalent of this amount in any currency) deposited in a local bank (in a country of your residence or nationality); or
3.  your monthly income is not less than 65,000 Thai Baht (or equivalent of this amount in any currency); or
4.  a combination of a deposit account and a monthly income totalling not less than 800,000 Thai Baht (or equivalent of this amount in any currency). 
 
*Please note that submission of a bank statement shall be supplemented with an official letter from the bank verifying the respective account and its actual balance.  Also, please note that a bank account shall be opened in your name.  
 
 
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS FOR EXTENSION OF RETIREMENT VISA:
 
1.  issued Non-Immigrant O (O-A Visa);
2.  qualifying age: 50 years old or over;
3.  meeting the following financial criteria:
    i.   800,000 Thai Baht or more deposited in your account in a Thai bank; or
    ii.  a monthly income of not less than 65,000 Thai Baht.
4.  proof or residence in Thailand:
   i.   a rental contract;
   ii.  an original and a copy of your title document, if you own a condo; or
   iii. a letter from a hotel\guesthouse that hosts you;
  iv. a Thai health insurance, which covers the lenth of permitted stay in Thailand with not less of 40,000 Thai Baht coverage for outpatient treatment and not less of 400,000 Thai Baht coverage for inpatient treatment (after 31 October 2019).  Please note that this requirement applies to holders of Non-Immigrant O-A Visas.
 
 
IMPORTANT NOTES:
 
If you prefer to deposit funds in your account opened in a Thai bank, then the following shall be considered:
 
1.  funds shall be deposited in a Thai bank at least three (3) months prior to the application date, provided that the deposited funds may not be withdrawn within three (3) months upon approval of your visa's extension;
2.  you may withdraw up to 400,000 Thai Baht after a 3-month period specified above, provided that the remaining balance of your account shall not be less than 400,000 Thai Baht throughout a year. 
 
If you prefer to rely on your regular monthly income, then the following shall be considered:
 
1.  your monthly income shall not be less than 65,000 Thai Baht (please take into due consideration applicable exchange rates);
2.  your monthly income shall come from overseas in the form of a pension or any other guaranteed regular payments;
3.  you have to present your bankbook or any relevant document showing that funds arriving in your account in a Thai bank are from overseas.  This document shall cover the previous 12 months, unless you have retired less than a year ago.
 
If you prefer to use a combination of a deposit account and a monthly income, then the following shall be considered:
 
1.  funds shall be deposited in a Thai bank at least three (3) months prior to the application date, provided that the deposited funds may not be withdrawn within three (3) months upon approval of your visa's extension;
2.  it is not required to maintain a specific minimum amount in your deposit account in a Thai bank throughout a year;
3.  in no circumstance, the amount of funds deposited in your bank account in a Thai bank throughout a year plus the amount of your annual income shall not be less than 800,000 Thai Baht in aggregate.
 
SPECIAL NOTES:
 
1.  you are not entitled to work, do business, or hold any consultancy positions in Thailand;
2.  you have to submit 90-day reports to the respective immigration office.
